Welcome to the Builder Series at Firearms Depot! Today, we’ll be taking an in-depth look at my home defense setup, featuring the Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion pistol housed in a Flux Raider chassis. This particular build has been fine-tuned over the past eight months, exploring different components and accessories to create a reliable and effective home defense firearm. While the setup is primarily intended for home defense, it can also serve as a versatile bag gun. So, let’s dive into the details and explore this purpose-built configuration.
The Foundation: Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion At the heart of this build lies the Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion pistol. The trigger pack, barrel, and slide were taken from this model and integrated into the Flux Raider chassis. The P320 X5 Legion is known for its exceptional performance, and by combining it with the Flux Raider chassis, we enhance its functionality for home defense purposes.
The Primary Accessory: SureFire XVL2 Mounted on the front of the Flux Raider chassis is the SureFire XVL2 weapon light. This versatile model features both a white light and an infrared (IR) light, providing the user with flexibility in low-light situations. The inclusion of the IR light allows for night vision compatibility, making it a valuable addition for those who enjoy nighttime range activities.
Magazine Capacity and Reliability: One of the standout features of the Flux Raider chassis is its ability to hold two magazines. Magazine-related malfunctions are a common cause of firearm issues, so having the option to quickly swap out magazines is advantageous. With Terran Tactical base pads providing an additional plus five rounds, each magazine can hold up to 22 rounds. Coupled with one round in the chamber, this setup offers a compact package with a total of 45 rounds of ammunition, typically loaded with 124 grain HST rounds for reliable performance.
Enhancements and Accessories: To optimize the functionality of the home defense setup, several accessories were carefully selected. The Vertice Concepts charging handle provides improved ergonomics and charging options. With the limited rear serrations on the Flux Raider chassis, the Vertice Concepts charging handle allows for various charging techniques, accommodating different scenarios and personal preferences.
On top of the chassis, the Trijicon MRO (Miniature Rifle Optic) provides a reliable red dot sight. Mounted in a low position, the MRO offers a clear viewing window and optimal cheek weld. The low mount ensures a comfortable shooting experience, allowing for a solid third point of contact.
The Flux Raider chassis supports pick mounts on the side, but for the sake of keeping the package compact, the preference here is to mount accessories below the chassis. This setup allows for quick and efficient manipulations without adding unnecessary bulk.
Safety Features and Ergonomics: The Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion, integrated into the Flux Raider chassis, comes equipped with a manual safety. Activating the safety blocks the trigger, providing an additional layer of security. The ambidextrous magazine releases located at various points on the firearm offer flexibility and ease of use, accommodating both right-handed and left-handed shooters.
Concluding Thoughts: The Sig Sauer P320 X5 Legion in the Flux Raider chassis is a purpose-built home defense setup that excels in reliability, versatility, and ease of use. With careful component selection and attention to detail, this configuration is well-suited for the fast-paced, high-stress situations that may arise in a home defense scenario. Whether it’s sitting on your nightstand or accompanying you in a bag, this setup offers peace of mind and the necessary firepower.
