Introduction: Welcome to Firearms Depot, and today in our Builder Series, we’ll be discussing the six millimeter ARC DMR rifle. Over the past six to eight months, I’ve been meticulously working on this setup, and I wanted to share the details of the build and its purpose with you. Many people have seen pictures of this rifle and have been curious about the components and additions I’ve made. So, let’s take a moment to go over everything and discuss what makes this build unique.
The Foundation: Radian Model 1 The core of this build is based on the Radian Model 1, a small-frame AR-15 style platform. The key differences between the six millimeter ARC and the traditional 5.56 or .223 rifles lie in the magazine, barrel, and bolt. By swapping out these components, I transformed my existing 16-inch 5.56 gun into a six millimeter ARC. The Radian Model 1 offers reliability and a solid foundation for customization.
Noteworthy Features: To enhance the overall performance of the rifle, I incorporated several notable features and accessories. Let’s delve into them:
Geissele SSA-E Trigger and B5 Precision Stock: I equipped the rifle with a Geissele SSA-E trigger for a smooth and crisp trigger pull. As for the stock, I opted for the B5 Precision stock, known for its balance, comfort, and lightweight design. This stock offers adjustability, allowing me to find the perfect eye relief and shooting position.
Optics Setup: Given the long-range capabilities of the six millimeter ARC, I chose optics that can effectively engage targets at extended distances. The primary optic is the Leupold Mark 5 HD, offering a magnification range of 3-18x and featuring a Tremor 3 reticle. This reticle provides wind holds for improved target acquisition.
For close-range engagements, I added a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro on a 45-degree offset mount. This secondary optic provides rapid target acquisition for short-range shooting scenarios.
Versatile Mounting Solutions: To accommodate the additional accessories, I incorporated a Badger Ordnance Condition 1 mount. This mount allows me to easily switch between my primary and secondary optics. Additionally, I utilized a hanger mount with two Modlite light buttons, enabling quick access to both my primary light on the 45-degree angle and the offset-mounted light.
Barrel and Gas Block: For improved accuracy and reduced weight, I selected an 18-inch Proof Research carbon fiber barrel. To fine-tune gas regulation, I installed a Superlative Arms adjustable gas plug. This component allows me to adjust gas flow, minimizing gas blowback and enhancing shooting comfort.
Suppressor and Illumination: I utilize a KG Made six millimeter can for effective sound suppression. To manage heat and mirage, I added an Armageddon Gear suppressor cover. On the front end, I mounted a Modlite flashlight for white light illumination. Additionally, I attached a Be Myers KIJI IR illuminator for long-range IR beam projection.
Sling, Charging Handle, and Grip: For easy carry and stability, I opted for the Viking Tactics padded sling. The charging handle is a Radian model, known for its reliability and smooth operation. Lastly, I have a Magpul grip for ergonomic comfort.
Conclusion: The six millimeter ARC DMR rifle is a versatile and capable platform that excels in long-range engagements while maintaining a compact and lightweight profile. With its adaptability for hunting and precision shooting, this build offers the best of both worlds. I’ve enjoyed extensively testing this rifle and have achieved excellent results at distances exceeding 600 yards. Whether you’re seeking a cartridge for long-range shooting or a reliable hunting companion, the six millimeter ARC is worth considering.
